 Abstract:  This collection of George William Featherstonhaugh Correspondence. Featherstonhaugh was a prominent British scientist who traveled to America numerous times and helped promote internal improvements. The single original letter is to Benjamin Franklin Peale and discusses mineralogy. The other documents, all photocopies of originals in private hands, discuss science and APS business and are from APS members Peter Du Ponceau, John Vaughan, and James Mease.

The collection is particularly strong in military affairs and contains a variety of original letters from generals and prominent officers from both British and American forces. The collection has a notable number of items relating to George Washington and his family, including a deed from 1604 to Laurence Washington that contains an original seal from James I.

 Abstract:  This volume contains a series of manuscript essays compiled by Joshua Francis Fisher and presented to the APS in the early 19th Century. It is part of the APS collection of documents relationg to colonial Pennsylvania politics and governance. The first part of the volume has a bibliography made in the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century that lists all of the printed pamphlets and other similar documents printed about Pennsylvania from 1681 to 1770. The remaining documents appear to involve the political career and rivalries of William Keith and Andrew Hamilton. The first is an essay "The Life and Character of a strange 'He Monster," that is purportedly written by William Keith about Andrew Hamilton. The second and third pamphlets "A Modest Apology" and "A Petition … against the Quakers" were written during Hamilton's life and involve political controversies he was involved in surrounding defensive measures. The final document is an obituary for Andrew Hamilton.

 Abstract:  This letter book is primarily letters from Doctor Anthony Fothergill to his friend and fellow physician J. Woodforde. Most of the letters were written from Bath, England between 1790 and 1802 and deal with medical topics, although other current affairs are regularly mentioned and discussed. There are a few letters from 1809-1813 in which Fothergill writes from Philadelphia, where he had retired to. He left Philadelphia for England during the War of 1812.

George Fox was a close friend of William Temple Franklin, who bequeathed to Fox his grandfather's papers. George Fox was a doctor educated at the University of Pennsylvania. His brother Samuel was a businessman. Samuel's son Charles became a doctor. The collection reflects various papers relating to the lives and careers of these three men.

 Abstract:  This letter book contains the correspondence of George Fox, a prominent Philadelphian and associate of William Temple Franklin, for the years 1786-1797. Fox corresponded with William Temple Franklin extensively and discussed financial and political matters. Lands owned by Franklin and Fox in western Pennsylvania were frequently discussed, as were other investments and speculations. For much of this period, Franklin was in Europe and Fox served as Franklin's business representative in Pennsylvania.

 Abstract:  This collection of correspondence complements the much larger collection of William Temple Franklin Correspondence and the records and correspondence of George Fox, Franklin's business agent and executor. This collection contains a series of letters from William Temple Franklin to George Fox that begins in the 1791 when W.T. Franklin was in London and ends in 1800. Most of the letters deal with Franklin's business, especially his land speculations. There are two documents from Goveneur Morris that deal with business.
