	A Princeton University graduate, Herbert Smith Bailey, Jr. became the youngest head of a university press in the country in 1954 when he assumed that role with the Princeton University Press at age thirty-two. Over the next thirty-two years, he strengthened the Press's publication program and undertook a number of long-term, monumental projects, most notably The Papers of Woodrow Wilson (a 69-volume series, edited by Arthur Link, which was completed in 1993), The Writings of Henry D. Thoreau, and The Collected Papers of Albert Einstein. Mr. Bailey also oversaw the publication of many other multi-volume editions, including the writings of Aaron Burr, Edward Fitzgerald and Soren Kierkegaard. Having come to publishing from the side of science (He was the first science editor at the Press.), Mr. Bailey became recognized as a thoughtful and eloquent spokesman for the role of scholarship across all subjects. In all, about four thousand works of scholarship were published during his tenure at the Press, including winners of the National Book Award, the Pulitzer Prize and Phi Beta Kappa Awards. Mr. Bailey was also at the forefront of book preservation, establishing a policy as early as the late 1950s that all hardbound books at the Press be printed on acid-free "permanent" paper. Herbert Smith Bailey, Jr. retired from publishing in 1986. He received degrees from Princeton (A.B., 1942; L.L.D., 1986) and Yale Universities (L.H.D., 1970). He died on June 28, 2011, at the age of 89, in Chapel Hill, North Carolinia.

	American historian Bernard Bailyn received his Ph.D. from Harvard in 1953 and taught history there, becoming full professor in 1961, University Professor in 1980, and professor emeritus in 1993. He won the Pulitzer Prize twice: first for his book The Ideological Origins of the American Revolution (1967) which also won the Bancroft Prize, in which he challenged long-standing interpretations of the causes of the American Revolution, and then for Voyagers to the West (1986), a study of Anglo-American migration patterns on the eve of the Revolution. Dr. Bailyn's other books include The New England Merchants in the Seventeenth Century (1955); Education in the Forming of American Society (1960); The Origins of American Politics (1968); The Ordeal of Thomas Hutchinson (1974), which won the National Book Award; The Peopling of British North America (1986); On the Teaching and Writing of History (1994); To Begin the World Anew: The Genius and Ambiguities of the American Founders (2003); Atlantic History: Concept and Contours (2005); and The Barbarous Years (2013). One of the wisest scholars on the colonial and Revolutionary period, Dr. Bailyn has also worked on economic, social and intellectual history. Since 1995 he has concentrated on Atlantic history, the interactions among the peoples of the four continents that border the Atlantic basin. Other posts he has held include editor-in-chief of the John Harvard Library, co-editor of the journal Perspectives in American History and Director of the Charles Warren Center for Studies in American History. Professor bailyn was a member of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Academia Europaea, the British Academy, the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and the Mexican Academy of History and Geography. He was awarded the 2010 National Humanities Medal by President Obama.

	John Baines is the foremost actively engaged authority on Ancient Egypt of our time. He received his D.Phil. from the University of Oxford in 1976. His versatile scholarship is unique in its scope, covering all aspects of Egyptology, from archaeology to epigraphy and writing, from prehistory to the latest phases of the civilization. He has conducted archeological excavations, written on conceptions of color, on the origins of writing, on history, concepts of ethnicity, on historiography, literature, as well as on notions of kingship, to mention only some of his interests. His work is characterized by a vigorous engagement with other disciplines, including art history, anthropology, sociology, or the comparative study of writing systems; he has perfected an interdisciplinary approach to the study of an ancient civilization that has created a new model for the analysis of ancient societies and brought his field into dialogues with other fields of knowledge. His work is often comparative in scope, but is always grounded in deep study and analysis of the ancient sources. At the same time he has been active in communicating knowledge outside of the academy; his Atlas of Ancient Egypt, translated into at least ten languages, has provided knowledge about this ancient civilization to students and lay persons throughout the globe. Additionally, he has published: Fecundity Figures: Egyptian Personification and the Iconology of a Genre, 1985; Die Bedeutung des Reisens im alten Ägypten, 2002; Visual and Written Culture in Ancient Egypt, 2007; and High Culture and Experience in Ancient Egypt, 2011. He is a member of the Royal Anthropological Institute and was elected a member of the American Philosophical Society in 2011.

	Dr. Ruzena Bajcsy is a pioneering researcher in machine perception, robotics and artificial intelligence. Dr. Bajcsy is the Director of CITRIS at the University of California, charged with shaping the center's vision and scientific strategy. She is also a member of the Neuroscience Institute and the School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. She is the former Director of the University of Pennsylvania's General Robotics and Active Sensory Perception Laboratory, which she founded in 1978. She has also served as the Assistant Director of the Computer Information Science and Engineering Directorate (CISE) at the NSF. She has held professorships at Penn, Slovak Technical University and the University of California, Berkeley Dr. Bajcsy has conducted seminal research in the areas of human-centered computer control, cognitive science, robotics, computerized radiological/medical image processing and artificial vision. She is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, as well as the Institute of Medicine. In 2001 she was a recipient of the ACM A. Newell award, and Discover Magazine named her to its list of the 50 most important women in science in November 2002. In April 2003 she received the CRA Distinguished Service Award and in May 2003 she became a member of the President's Information Technology Advisory Committee. In 2020 she won the 2020 National Center for Women & Information Technology's Pioneer in Tech Award.
