The collection is divided into three series: Series I (1772-1783) contains material relating to Franklin's mission to France; Series II (1726-1818) contains correspondence and miscellaneous papers; Series III (1728- 1841) includes original manuscripts of Articles of Beliefs and Acts of Religion, a copy of his ledger as postmaster general, and other materials. Originals are in the Library of Congress.

These selected papers include letters and documents concerning the papers of Benjamin Franklin. A portion of these papers came to be owned by Stevens, but were eventually purchased by the U.S. government and are now at the Library of Congress. These materials were used by Whitfield J. Bell, Jr. in his article, "Henry Stevens, his Uncle Samuel, and the Franklin Papers," Proceedings of the Massachusetts Historical Society 72 (Oct. 1957-Dec. 1960): 143-211.

This commonplace book includes quotations, definitions, reflections, and anecdotes arranged alphabetically. There are some otherwise unrecorded anecdotes by Benjamin Franklin.

This thesis concerns Houdon and his bust of Benjamin Franklin, which is in the Boston Athenaeum, and includes photographs of some of Houdon's pieces.
