The latter found that M. de Chaumont was indebted to Franklin in a sum of over 35,000 livres (or francs) but as Congress owed M. de Chaumont a much larger amount for merchandise and supplies furnished to Gen. [Benjamin] Lincoln, Franklin agreed to allow him to retain the above sum as part payment of the account due him by Congress. They both agree to consider everything settled between them personally and release each other from all claims and pecuniary obligations whatsoever. (In French. Press copy.)
