Navajo language recordings made by Andrej A. Kibrik in Arizona in 1995. Consists of three stories told in Navajo, two retold in English, including discussion, and two poems read, translated, and discussed. Also includes elicitations focusing on coordinate constructions and adverbial clause constructions.

The Jan Bruckner Papers are a small collection of cassette tapes, manuscripts and printed materials produced during her time obtaining a doctorate at Indiana University's Physical Therapy Program. The main focus is applied anthropological research at Tohono O'odham Nation Reservation where she worked as a physical therapy consultant between 1982 and 1992, resulting in an illustrated binder of Tohono O'odham words and phrases to describe work done in physical therapy, as well as other related materials. Bruckner's physical therapy assistant was John Miguel, a native O'odham speaker from Santa Rosa AZ, who recorded O'odham words onto cassette tape. Other cassette tapes contain discussions of the ethics of applied anthropology, Tohono O'odham and Spanish language classes, and journal entries of Bruckner's time at the Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in 1987.

Hopi words, phrases, texts, counting, and grammar (particles), some with English equivalents; Navajo words and phrases with English glosses and Navajo literacy lessons (one reel). Includes duplicates of Hopi recordings made by Carl F. Voegelin. Hopi informants include: Willie Coin, Jimmy Kewanwaytiwa, Bennie Nuvanisa, and Albert Yava.

The recordings include names of plants, birds, reptiles, and other animals (including domesticated); costumes (including Kachina); Migration legend; place-names; kinship terms; numerals; weaving; pottery; Hopi, Huichol, and Tarahumara belts; medicine man; etc. Informants include: Frank Capella (Hopi and Tewa), Grace Chapella (Tewa), Ralph Charlie (Hopi?), George Cochase (Hopi and Tewa), Jim Kewanwytewa (Hopi), Donald Mahkewa (Tewa), Nettie Masayumptewa (Hopi?), Edmund Nequatewa (Hopi), Garnet Pavatea (Hopi?), Frank Sehma (Hopi), Henry Sheldon (Hopi), Annette Silas (Hopi), Albert Sinquah (Hopi), Dennis Sinquah (Hopi and Tewa), David Tawameiniwa (Hopi?), Joe Tevenyouma (Hopi?), Barton Wright (Hopi?), and Margaret Wright (Hopi?).

Audio recordings, primarily linguistic field recordings of Native American languges, removed from the James M. Crawford papers. The bulk of the recordings are in three areas: Alabama songs, stories, and fiddle music; Cocopa folklore, autobiographical stories, songs, and elicited words and sentences; Yuchi autobiographical stories, conversations, and elicitied word lists. Other material includes: Cherokee conversations; Chickasaw word and phrases lists; readings from a Chontal-Spanish dictionary; a Diegueño text; words lists and discussion regarding the Mobilian trade language (Yama); intermixed Mobilian, Choctaw, and Koasati word lists; Mohave songs, with explanations; a Navajo elicitation session, with interview and conversation; elicited Shoshoni expressions; Tolowa songs, Yavapai word lists and texts; and Yuki words and expressions. The small amount of non-Native American material in the collection generally consists of unidentified conversations, readings of English and Russian texts, and recordings of baby talk.

Anthropologist and ethnographer Frank Gouldsmith Speck was one of Franz Boas' early graduate students and from 1907 till his death in 1950 spent his career in a variety of positions at the University of Pennsylvania, including its Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. Unlike most of his contemporaries, Speck chose to study the cultures of Indigenous peoples of eastern North America, especially the Haudenosaunee, Cherokee, and peoples speaking Algonquian languages, such as Anishinaabe, Wabanaki, Innu, Lenape, and other Algonquian peoples within the eastern United States. Speck spent a larger amounnt of time in the field than was typical of most ethnographers, collecting documentary information and physical objects. The Frank G. Speck Papers consist of 15.5 linear feet of Speck's professional correspondence, field notes, lecture notes, and manuscripts of published and unpublished works. The material focuses on the Eastern Woodlands Indians, particularly the Catawba, Cherokee, Creek, Delaware, Houma, Haudenosaunee ("Iroquois"), Labrador Inuit ("Eskimo"), Innu ("Montagnais-Naskapi"), Nanticoke, Penobscot, Powhatan, Algonquian, and Yuchi. The collection is divided into two subcollections: Subcollection 1 is comprised of Speck's research material and correspondence, and Subcollection 2 consists of his manuscripts and related correspondence. The two subcollections were acquired separately by the Society, and were originally cataloged as the Frank G. Speck Papers (572.97 Sp3) and the Frank G. Speck Manuscripts on Native Americans (970.3 Sp3p) respectively.
