This incomplete volume contains an alphabetical list of family names, with some colored sketches of coats of arms.

Along with blue print replicas of inscriptions in stone found near the iron ore bouses of south central Pennsylvania are a biography of Strong and background information concerning the inscriptions. This is a supplement to Joseph Ayoob's "Were the Phoenicians the first to discover America?"

This volume, written by an unknown author, describes general principles of physics, with numerous sketches illustrating the text. There are a few notations in Spanish by Juan Bastolleros.

During the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, the American Philosophical Society regularly received letters, and occasionally full blown manuscripts, from members of the public regarding their ideas on science or technology. In 1829, Edward Mulhern of Philadelphia submitted a manuscript on terrestrial magnetism that he felt had implications for navigation. Little is known about Mulhern other than that he died before 1833. Mulhern's "Dissertation on the doctrine and principles of magnetism &" is an attempt to work through some fundamental issues in terrestrial magnetism, including the relative orientation and positions of the geographic and magnetic poles, with an eye toward their impact on navigation. The APS Minutes for April 15, 1833, read: "An application from Alex Mulhern to have returned to him a paper on the 'doctrine of Magnetism' laid before the society by his deceased father, was received and the Librarian was directed to return the same.'"

These field notes, compiled by de Laguna and Catherine McClellan, include archaeological investigations, transcripts of interviews with community members and sketches. Tlingit material recorded at Yakutat, Angoon, Carcross, and Teslin, with small amount at Atlin; Ahtna material recorded at Chitina, Copper Center, and Chistochina.

This is a Portuguese maritime treatise on spherical and planetary astronomy, based on the Ptolomeic system, but with presentation of the Copernican system. There are numerous diagrams and a few interesting sketches.

This item is a book of calculations, including problems in the elements of astronomy; the calculations of lunar eclipses at Philadelphia, 1747-1761, and of solar eclipses in 1744 and 1752; and Halley's tables of the sun and moon.

This manuscript was presented to the Société Royale des Sciences de Montpellier, and endorsed as being received by them on 8 October 1786, for a prize in physics which the society was sponsoring on the question if the Newtonian explanation of rainbows was incontestable. Flaugergues' presentation won the prize. Included are numerous geometrical and other types of sketches.

Related to the Dupaix expeditions of 1806, four loose notebooks with 23 ink and pencil sketches of Mexican ruins and hieroglyphics. Fragmented text, in Spanish, with images of construction and decoration on stonework, pottery and buildings of various native ruins of the Yucatan. The APS manuscript sketch file has an inventory list of the images.

William Clark kept this diary on an expedition to make a treaty with the Osage Indians in the Missouri Territory. A sketch drawn under the September 16 entry is apparently a draft of Clark's Fort Osage map, while the first page of notes presents color scheme used on another draft. See Kate L. There are letters, sketches of fish, and other documents that pertain to Innes' interest in exotic fishes for home aquariums and their care. There is information on the journal Aquarium which he founded in 1932, and minute books of the Aquarium Society of Philadelphia, 1898-1912 (3 vol.). The most voluminous professional correspondence is with George S. Myers, and there is some family correspondence.

These papers include two pages by Rubens Peale concerning landscapes, a notebook by Rembrandt Peale relating to the portrait of Washington, and a commonplace and recipe book, with sketches of gas lights.
