Two letters from Stanley Newman (1981 and 1984), a manuscript entitled "Central Sierra Miwok Vocabulary", and correspondence from Berman to the APS. The letters are Newman's reply to Berman's queries regarding the former's sources for certain elements of the Chukchansi [Yokuts] language--which Berman cited in his article--and Newman's comment on that article. The Miwok manuscript is based on Berman's fieldwork in 1970, working primarily with Miwok speaker John Kelly and to a lesser extent Viola Wessell. Berman notes that this was his first fieldwork and that his inexperience led to some inaccuracies: "I believe that in the instances where Freeland and I disagree, Freeland's recordsings are to be preferred."

These slips contain Hupa and English words and grammar.

These materials include notes and vocabularies of Salish languages and dialects, manuscripts concerning the Tillamook language and folk tales, and notebooks containing information from various interviews.

These linguistic materials include field notes taken by Ronald L. Olson pertaining to the Quinault and Quileute Indians, and an Indian vocabulary of the Blackfoot language assembled by Isaac Ingalls Stevens, as well as a comparative vocabulary of Indians of the United States.

These materials were compiled by various anthropologists: Edward Sapir, Franz Boas, Alex Thomas, and Frank Williams. Sapir (ca. 1920) collected and annotated a series of Nootka ethnographic and legendary texts (600 pages of materials), initially intended as a third volume of Sapir and Swadesh, Nootka Texts (1939). Boas (ca. 1900-1913) contributed Nootka vocabularies and grammatical notes (100 slips and 100 pages). Thomas obtained Nootka texts for the collection (ca. 1910-1920).

Vocabulary of Huron with French equivalents, semantically ordered (parts of body, terms of relationship, animals, etc.). List of names of occupants of Huron villages, L'ile aux bois blanc, 1747 (33 cabins); list of bands, locations, names of chiefs. Recorded by Father Potier, a missionary at Sandwich on the Detroit River and written at Lorette near Quebec.

Alphabetical (by Abenaki) list of words with English equivalents; uses Pickering's orthography. Capital letters probably inserted by Peter S. Du Ponceau, who alphabetized the list by the English in his collection.

This volume lists approximately 3,000 Onondaga inflected words and phrases with their German counterparts.

The journal includes notes on travels to New York and Michigan, conversations, and Indian councils. Also included is a record of letters received from Indians. Table of contents.

This one-volune collection, consisting of three manuscripts bound together, was previously named "Names of various trees, shrubs, and plants in the language of the Lennape [sic], 1840" after one of the manuscripts in it. It consists of Nottoway terms, organized according to a variety of categories; a Lenape (Delaware) word list relating to English botanical terms, along with Latin terms; and an English-Algonquian-Lenape comparative vocabulary.

This is a copy of Moran's "libro grande" (1625-1650), and includes two versions of the grammar (in different hands), confessional materials, and a vocabulary of 500 words which has been added to the others. The library has 10 volumes of grammars, vocabularies, sermons, and other religious writings in the Kaqchikel and K'iche' languages of Guatemala. Several have been studied, notably by Daniel G. Brinton in APS Proceedings 21 (1884): 345, and Nora B. Thompson, "Algunos manuscritos guatemaltecos en Filadelfia", Anales de la Sociedad de Geografia e Historia 23 (1948), Nos. 1 2: p. 3; and all have been described by John F. Freeman, "Manuscript Sources on Latin American Indians," APS Proceedings 10 (1962): 530, and in Freeman's Guide to Manuscripts relating to the American Indian (1966).
