These are typed transcripts of letters between de Vries and Elizabeth Day Palmer, and are of a professional nature concerning his research in genetics and visits to the United States.

This journal pertains to his travels in the eastern part of the United States.

These are primarily letters with family members in Ireland while Harvey traveled and lectured in the United States. In 1849 he lectured on botany at the Lowell Institute in Boston and toured much of the eastern coast of the U. S. There are detailed letters about what he saw and the people he met.

These journeys of botanical exploration include information regarding plants, and his remarks on the condition of remote settlements he visited. The journals cover the territory from Hudson's Bay to the Indian River in Florida, and from the Bahama Islands to the banks of the Mississippi.

These papers include sketches made on a trip to the United States, Canada, and the West Indies; catalogs of objects of natural history, such as fish, animals, insects, and fossils, sent by him to the Museum; and notes.

Dalton Dorr (1846-1901) was the curator, secretary and director of the Pennsylvania Museum and School of Industrial Art in Philadelphia, the forerunner of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, from 1880-1899. A journal, written in 1897, copied from his notes and from memory, of travels in Greenland (1869), the Indian Territory, Colorado and the Pacific coast (1872-73); Paris, England, Scotland, and Ireland (1882-85), with some sketches. He took the Greenland cruise with Isaac I. Hayes in 1869, which was described by Hayes in his "Land of Desolation" (New York: Harper, 1872). See also, a companion volume of albumen prints taken by William Bradford and other members of "Under the midnight sun: a pleasure cruise in Greenland" in the summer of 1869.

This correspondence is principally concerned with business between Pershouse and his brother James in England, with comments on conditions and events in the United States, including anti-British feeling, Thomas Paine's return to America, Jefferson's administration, and immigration. The papers include Pershouse's journal (1800-1838), which includes accounts of travels in England, France, and the United States, letterbooks (1836-1862) of Henry Pershouse, nephew of John, chiefly on business matters, and two volumes of Pershouse genealogical data, compiled by B.M. Pershouse Bayley (1899).

This collection includes letters to Maclure, journals of travel in Europe and America, notes and essays. Also included are manuscripts, transcripts, and notes relating to Maclure.

Selected by William Coleman, this collection contains correspondence from William Bateson to his wife, Catharine, and to his colleagues, such as Francis Galton, E. Roy Lankester, Alfred Newton, and Charles Scott Sherrington; lectures given between 1897-1904; and some genealogical and miscellaneous material. This note is currently under review for revision.

Robert Cushman Murphy (1887-1973), one of the twentieth century's great ornithologists, was curator of mammals and birds at the Brooklyn Museum (1911-1917) and was curator of birds and later chairman of birds at the American Museum of Natural History (1917-1973). The world's foremost authority on sea birds, in 1936, he penned Oceanic Birds of South America, a two volume set. An ardent traveler and explorer, he kept copious notes of his travels, which he typed up, illustrated and had bound. The APS library owns forty-two bound journals. Murphy was made an APS member in 1946. A pioneer in the study of the ecology, a louse, fish, plant, lizard, an Antarctic inlet, spider, and two mountains have acquired his name. This collection contains diaries, journals, articles, addresses and observations of Murph;, generously illustrated with newspaper clippings, photographs, letters, sketches, maps, and charts.
