This collection was assembled by William J. Campbell for an anticipated edition of the works of Charles Balthazar Julien Fevret de Saint-Mémin, an artist and engraver, which was never completed. There are about 1,500 engravings, as well as ca. 4,000 pieces of correspondence between Campbell and descendants and owners of Saint-Mémin's portraits throughout the United States.

These are copies in an unknown hand [the name "Meriel Nevill Watt" appears in the front of the volume] of letters, primarily from Ellis, that were published in the "Philosophical Transactions" of the Royal Society in London. Most relate to botanical topics, and many are written to Peter Collinson. A few are written by Peter Woulfe. Included are contemporary engravings from the "Transactions," as well as original wash drawings copied from the engravings.

These are the original sketches used for the engravings in Day's 1843 publication, "Historical Collections of the State of Pennsylvania" (Philadelphia). They are finely detailed renderings of public and private structures and landscape throughout Pennsylvania. Accompanying these sketches are 150 pages of photocopied letters of Day, from originals at Yale University. These were used by Smith in his book.

Diary of a traveler from Vienna, Austria, with the surname Rehn to the United States in 1869. The author describes his travel to cities in the Middle Atlantic and Midwest regions--Washington, Philadelphia, New York, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Chicago. He comments on the technology (factories, machines, railways, etc.) and architecture (bridges, buildings, social facilities, etc.) he sees. The diary contains a variety of sketches, including sketches of buildings, floor diagrams, bridges, etc. Also included are a travel diary for a trip to Italy in 1875; four engravings of Viennese buildings, 1856-1875; and two geological maps, 1866-1873. In German.
