The figure's wrists and ankles are bound with a length of chain, and he holds his hands upwards in a pleading gesture. "AM I NOT A MAN AND A BROTHER." is inscribed in bas-relief around the outer perimeter. Unsigned and undated.

Obverse: classical female figure sitting on bookshelf, holding book; olive branch is underfoot; "K[lambda][cursive epsilon]I[cursive omega]." Reverse: relief of book spine; "1902-2002 / THE BRITISH ACADEMY" Surface is green- and gold-painted.
