Rail at top serves as pin. Rail is incorporated into white ribbon with one red and two blue stripes. Ribbon is attached to medal via hook. Separate rectangular pin, to be worn above medal, is covered with same ribbon. Both housed in original leather box with ivory felt and satin inside. Outside of box: "KING'S MEDAL FOR SERVICE; inside: crest topped with crown, banner marked "ROYAL MINT." Obverse: profile of George VI; "GEORGIVS VI D.G. BR. OMN. REX ET INDIAE IMP." around perimeter. Reverse: knight and female figure; "FOR SERVICE IN THE CAUSE OF FREEDOM" around perimeter and "THE KING'S MEDAL" under images.
