Chippendale mahogany, open-arm library chair. The tall, upholstered back has a serpentine crest flanked by upholstered, shaped arms. The arms are raised on concave supports about an upholstered, leather seat with a deeply aproned seat rail. The seat lifts up, exposing two attached steps forming a stool which enabled the user to reach higher shelves. The chair is raised on molded square front legs and flaring square back legs, all on casters. They are conjoined by an H-stretcher. The chair has its original leather, which has been strengthened. Carnelian charm that reportedly adorned Benjamin Franklin's watch chain. Housed in leather box with purple satin inside. Mounted on board.

Gold acorn, with tooth embedded in it. The top of the case, made of soft gold, is shaped and finished to appear like the cap of an acorn, but is open to reveal the tooth. The rest of the acorn is of harder gold. The tooth is held in the case by paper. The tooth appears to be a molar (possibly the lower left second molar) and is in three parts.

Souvenir spoon with portrait of Franklin on handle, kite with key and lightning below, and Franklin at the court of France in bowl. Handle of spoon: "1706 B. Franklin 1790." Marked "Bailey Banks & Biddle" on back, next to lion, anchor, and "G" symbol.

Eagle below Franklin, followed by house representing his birthplace, crest with 13 stars and stripes, "1760 1790" along stem, and Philadelphia City Hall in bowl. On rear is image of Liberty Bell, printing press, and Independence Hall. No maker's mark.

Thirty-two chess pieces of red-painted and white ivory. The pieces are contained in a threaded, silver, egg-shaped, grooved container. The folding board is made of black, white, and red leather, with gold tooling.

Thirty-two chess pieces of turned fruitwood. One set of sixteen is either of a darker wood or stained. The brown set is slightly taller than the white set. The chess board (1976.8) is not original to the pieces.

Painted tin box for Benjamin Franklin's honorary Master of Arts diploma from Harvard University. Painted (in blue, brown, gold, and red) with supposed earliest known representation of Harvard's coat of arms. Presented along with the papers of Benjamin Franklin (held by APS Library).
