In the lower left foreground is a stack of colorfully-bound books, whose readable titles include "Locke," "Price," "English Politics," and "American Phil trans." To the right of a large gray column in the center background of the painting is a large bas-relief profile portrait of Benjamin Franklin. A tree and the second- and third-story windows of a red-brick building are visible in the left background. Unsigned and undated.
