Two volumes in one. Volume 1 contains the Life of Franklin, v. 2 the Essays. A collection of popular pieces edited by Benjamin Vaughan and originally published in 1793 together with a back-translation of the autobiography from Gibelin's 1791 French edition of the first fragment of Franklin's memoirs, composed in 1771, of the years 1706-1731; with Henry Steuber's continuation, appended in 1793. Earlier editorial work done by Richard Price. Signatures: v. 1, A-N¡; v. 2, A-K¡ (K6 verso blank). Frontispiece portrait of Franklin in a fur cap engraved by J. Bannerman. First ed. originally prepared for publication in 1791, but delayed until 1793.
