Label text: One of the two books of plant specimens, entitled "Herbarium Americanum" and dated "1795," that were prepated by Professor Benjamin Smith Barton. They contain plants from many sources, including John Adlum and Batram's Garden, and the one shown was gathered by Andre Michaux, the French author of the first comprehensive work on North American plants, his "Flora Boreali-Americana" published at Paris in 1803.
