 Abstract:  The John Mifflin receipt book is a fairly straight forward collection. Mifflin had some involvement in financing the Pike Expedition, some record of which is in the transactions of the receipt book. He was also a prominent Philadelphian. As such, names of other prominent Philadelphians with whom he conducted business are recorded. The Mifflin receipt book is unusual in one respect. Occasionally, Mifflin provides hisotrical details on his property.

The depositions can occasionally provide intriguing details about events and litigation that happened in Philadelphia. One deposition describes a controversy over a rotten tobacco shipment, while others deal with personal disputes over debts. Some of the depositions are in German, providing insight on the German community within Philadelphia.
