The collection as a whole has a wide array of material, although it is particularly strong in of Native American language material from the nineteenth century. This essay was likely submitted for the Volney Prize in linguistics and reflects Du Ponceau's interests in language more generally.

 Abstract:  This is one of two bound volumes from the sixteenth or seventeenth century Latin America. The two volumes contain translations of K'iche', common phrases, verbs, and a prayer. The bound volume is not printed, perhaps because its content was too controversial, and is instead written in a beautiful script.
