Some of the letters are co-signed by Franklin Bache. All of the letters date from 1860 onwards. The only early American materials are various diplomas and certificates from the 1810s and 1820s for Wood. These include a diploma from the University of Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, and various certificates from places like the Philomathean Society at Penn and medical societies.

| | | | Dates: | 1786-1797 | | | | Abstract: | This letter book contains the correspondence of George Fox, a prominent Philadelphian and associate of William Temple Franklin, for the years 1786-1797. Fox corresponded with William Temple Franklin extensively and discussed financial and political matters. Lands owned by Franklin and Fox in western Pennsylvania were frequently discussed, as were other investments and speculations. For much of this period, Franklin was in Europe and Fox served as Franklin's business representative in Pennsylvania.

Most of the letters are from George Ord to Charles Waterton, a British naturalist, and reflect their shared interest in natural history, especially ornithology. The letters deal with Ord's rivalry with Audubon. Many of Ord's letters question the accuracy of Audobon's work. Other letters touch on Alexander Wilson and on new techniques for capturing images of animal life, such as the use of the Daguerre process.

| | | | Dates: | 1777-1786 | | | | Abstract: | The George Weedon military correspondence contains a wealth of information on the American Revolution and its immediate aftermath. There are letters from the Morristown and Valley Forge winters, although the bulk of the material comes from 1780-1781. The collection follows Weedon's service throughout the war. His correspondence often details movements, strategies, supplies, and life in the Continental Army. Weedon also receives letters from correspondents stationed throughout the United States. This correspondence can provide information on events happening in these other locations. Correspondents include Baron von Steuben, Thomas Jefferson, Nathaniel Greene, Peter Muhlenberg, George Washington, Marquis de Lafayette, Horatio Gates, and many others. Washington, in particular, is a frequent correspondent who writes to Weedon seeking advice on military action.

The single original letter is to Benjamin Franklin Peale and discusses mineralogy. The other documents, all photocopies of originals in private hands, discuss science and APS business and are from APS members Peter Du Ponceau, John Vaughan, and James Mease.
