 Abstract:  This dictionary of Native American language dates to 1771 and is from the Great Lakes region, an area often called the pays d'en haut. The dictionary is in French. The collection came to the APS from the Academy of Natural Sciences. It is bound in a rather unique white, soft leather cover.

 Abstract:  The Rafinesque Collection consists of two types of documents: correspondence and copies of his writings. The correspondence is separated into three distinct parts: general correspondence, correspondence with Augustin Pyramus de Candole (a Swiss botanist), and correspondence with John Quincy Adams. The copies of his writings consist of manuscript essays, notebooks, lectures, and other materials that discuss various scientific topics, especially botany.

 Abstract:  This rich document provides insight into a facet of post-Seven Years War British imperial thought and planning as officials tried to consolidate their holdings. Robert Roger's manuscript essay includes a detailed plan for how the British Empire should handle its expansion, estimates the fiscal needs of western posts, and proposes a form of government for these new areas that would maintain peace for Indians, British troops, and settlers.

 Abstract:  J. Stephen Catlett wrote of the Miscellaneous Manuscripts collection that "there is no other way to describe these manuscript letters, essays, and other papers that are contained presently in 49 boxes." Catlett then listed a random assortment of names of authors found in the collection. Each individual item was catalogued in the card catalogue, but his data has now been put online. Rather than try to replicate that data, this entry will focus on some of the main themes of the collection and some of the most notable documents.

 Abstract:  The Henry B. Kelso collection consists of a single, slender bound journal that contains Ojibwa-English translations of some words, the numerical system from one to ten used by Winnebago's, and records of Kelso births for 1823 and 1826. The journal was compiled in Green Bay, Wisconsin beginning in 1822.
