Abstract

There are letters, reports, and photographs relating to his work in coal research. There is much correspondence concerning research at Bell Telephone Laboratories and Carnegie Institute matters relating to coal technology and machinery and to the steel industry. There are also several photographs, taken shortly after World War II, showing the industrial destruction in Germany.

Background note

Homer Hiram Lowry was a physical chemist at Bell Telephone Laboratories, inc. (1925-1930) and director of the Coal Research Laboratory at Carnegie Institute of Technology, Pittsburgh (1930-1953).
