This letter book is primarily letters from Doctor Anthony Fothergill to his friend and fellow physician J. Woodforde. Most of the letters were written from Bath, England between 1790 and 1802 and deal with medical topics, although other current affairs are regularly mentioned and discussed. There are a few letters from 1809-1813 in which Fothergill writes from Philadelphia, where he had retired to. He left Philadelphia for England during the War of 1812.
