Meriwether Lewis and William Clark were explorers. Nicholas Biddle was requested by William Clark to write a narrative of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, which was published in 1814 as "History of the Expedition of Captains Lewis and Clark."

The first consists of a travel journal, likely kept by Meriwether Lewis, on his trip from Pittsburgh west to Winter Camp in 1803. The second volume contains a list of questions Nicholas Biddle had for William Clark. These queries include Clark's response.
