Kampman copied this document at the request of John Gottlieb Ernestus Heckewelder "for the information of the [American] Philosophical Society," and Heckewelder transmitted it to the Society.

Background note

Christian Frederick Kampman was a Moravian physician who came to Pennsylvania in 1781; he practiced at Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and then Hope in Sussex County, New Jersey, before returning to Bethlehem in 1808.
