This list was kept on Smith's travels in France and Switzerland, and includes notes by John Vaughan from whose scrapbook these sheets were removed in 1959.

Background note

Thomas P. Smith, a chemist and mineralogist, was elected to the American Philosophical Society in 1799.

Early American History Note

These ewo small volumes list a variety of minerals that Thomas Smith observed while traveling in Europe in 1777. Smith often notes where he saw the minerals. This complements the much larger and richer travel journals Smith kept (914.Sm6).
