1959-1970
Abstract:
The Luis S. Kemnitzer Papers include correspondence, works by Kemnitzer and others, research notes, printed materials, photographs, slides, and personal items. The majority of them focus on the socioeconomic status (especially health) of Native Americans living in the San Francisco Bay Area, as part and extension of the Social Survey of American Indian Urban Integration. This study particularly involved Oglala Lakota, Navajo and Pueblo consultants. Other research areas reflected in the collection include a 1977 fieldwork excursion to Palau, folk music and the California railroad of the late 1950s, and sexual health.
