The author claims that studies in paleontology, biology, and topography "practically eliminate the Darwinian hypothesis from serious consideration in the study of nature." The essay, which is illustrated by hand-drawn maps, is "dedicated to the memory of Henry Pemberton, Member American Philosophical Society, Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, etc."
