This waste book contains accounts with various persons in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey for dry-goods, notions, rum, cutlery, glassware, and medicines.

The two volumes consist of a daybook and ledger. The first volume, a daybook, is a chronological record of sales, with names of purchasers.

This volume is the account book of a Philadelphia machine shop ("screws, taps and dies") operated by Winner and N. Barrows, which made such items as bolts, iron rods, pins, and rivets. Also included are charges and time requirements for the work done.

These volumes are accounts of payments and receipts, and of numerous loans and bonds for Philadelphia area merchants and individuals.

Jacob Frederico Torlade Pereira de Azambuja was the Portuguese chargé d'affaires in the United States from 1829-1834. His essay on the monetary system of Portugal was presented to the American Philosophical Society in October 1833, and was read at the meeting of Oct. 18. Written in Portuguese, the essay deals with one of the burning issues of the Jacksonian era, the money system, by examining the history of coinage and the money system in Portgual from the earliest times.

This volume is a listing of Philadelphia individuals claiming bankruptcy, with a corresponding list of their creditors.

This collection includes certificates issued primarily by railroad companies, banks, and industrial companies. There are some bonds issued by the City of Philadelphia. Also of interest are the scenic engravings of railroads on the certificates.

Reference is made to Edward Shippen, Jr. First section from 1757 includes 6 pages of (apparently) Susquehannock language terms, then 1 page each of Tuscarora and Mohawk numerals; all copied in Indian vocabularies (Mss.497.In2). Followed by memorandum book carrying list of obligations, November 1764 - May 4, 1771.
