These reels include letters to George Ord in Pennsylvania (1830-1869) and letters to Charles Edmonstone and sisters-in-law Eliza and Helen Edmonstone. There are also extracts of four volumes of observations on birds recorded by Norman Moore (1862-1871) and letters to Moore.

These letters cover subjects in natural history, especially birds and mollusks.

These lectures, numbered 1 through 39 and three unnumbered, were delivered at Mr. Peale's Museum and are on such topics as natural history, physical phenomena and the elements, quadrupeds, fishes, birds, primates, and systems of identification. There are notes in the lectures for pauses, music, and illustrations to be included.

This collection contains color slides of drawings and watercolors on vellum made by Lesueur in 1799, when he accompanied Baudin and Francois Péron on their scientific expedition to Australia. The microfilm is of Lesueur's American sketchbooks.

Correspondence relates chiefly to "The Auk" and to investigations into the stomachs of birds carried on by the United States Biological Survey. Correspondents include: Francis V. Greene, Henry Wetherbee Henshaw, Edgar A. Mearns, Clinton H. Merriam, and Frank R. Rathbun. Also includes the Biological Society of Washington and the American Ornithologists' Union. The autograph collection was assembled principally from signatures on mailing instructions for "The Auk" and on envelopes addressed to McAtee and others.

This material relates to Alexander B. Grosart's biography of Wilson. There are notes and copies of letters and documents, including a copy of Wilson's will. There is one poem by Wilson, "The Last Wish," and an 1806 letter to William Bartram.

This collection of letters and documents relates primarily to Charles Waterton (B W31n) but included as well are papers of the family (B W31m). Most of the letters to or from Waterton concern birds, bird mating, domestic news, natural history, and Walton Hall, his estate. In addition, there are recipes and a housekeeping account book (1780-1781). There are numerous letters with his sisters-in-law, Eliza and Helen Edmonstone, and also an exchange of letters between Waterton's son Edmund and Sir George Bowyer concerning Papal audiences.

This collection contains correspondence on natural history, expecially mollusks, fishes, and birds, and on medicine and social affairs, with references to the British Museum of Natural History. Also included are a paper by Owen on dinosaurs and a synopsis of a course of lectures, 1857.

This collection contains professional and personal correspondece, as well as some personal business accounts. The topics mentioned range from general ornithology to specific birds, particularly of the West Indies and South America; bird illustrations and various publications; paleontology, and zoology.

Arthur J. Cain is an evolutionary biologist whose research interests have included genetics, natural selection, biogeography, and systematics. Based at Oxford University and, later, the University of Liverpool, much of Cain's research was field-based, focusing on terrestrial gatsropods. This collection contains correspondence, grant applications, reports, programs for scientific meetings, unpublished papers and lectures, research notes, charts, graphs, maps, and manuscript reviews of journal articles and books. The Cain Papers is divided into three series: I. Correspondence ; II. Subject Files ; and, III. Papers by Colleagues. Arrangement is alphabetical by folder title, and chronological within each folder.

George Ord made important contributions as an ornithologist and writer but is also famous for his contempt of fellow ornithologist John James Audubon. Throughout his life he published numerous scientific articles and assisted in completing Alexander Wilson's life's work, American Ornithology; or, The Natural History of the Birds of the United States. Ord also left his mark as a member of the American Philosophical Society and as the president of the Academy of Natural Science of Philadelphia. The George Ord collection consists primarily of outgoing personal correspondence to Charles Waterton ranging from 1831 to 1866 that highlights Ord's professional as well as personal affairs, most notably his hostility toward Audubon. The collection is supplemented by correspondence of Ord's to and from various individuals regarding personal and business matters.
