These papers were collected by Wallace Earle Stegner for Beyond the Hundredth Meridian (Boston, 1954). They relate to exploration and geological surveys, the Hayden-Powell controversy, the Cope-Marsh-Powell controversy, and the Colorado expedition of 1868, including extracts from Powell's scrapbook about the reported loss of the party (1869). They also contain a few scattered references to Ute Indians.
