These papers were collected by Wallace Earle Stegner for Beyond the Hundredth Meridian (Boston, 1954). They relate to exploration and geological surveys, the Hayden-Powell controversy, the Cope-Marsh-Powell controversy, and the Colorado expedition of 1868, including extracts from Powell's scrapbook about the reported loss of the party (1869). They also contain a few scattered references to Ute Indians.

This dissertation deals with only the first forty-three years of Clark's life.

These are records of the United States Exploring Expedition under the command of Lieutenant Charles Wilkes, and include letters, journals, ship's logs, and records of court martials.

These journeys of botanical exploration include information regarding plants, and his remarks on the condition of remote settlements he visited. The journals cover the territory from Hudson's Bay to the Indian River in Florida, and from the Bahama Islands to the banks of the Mississippi.

This journal was kept by Peale as the assistant naturalist of Stephen Long's expedition west of the Rocky Mountains, May 3-August 1, 1819.
