Abstract:
Meehan (1898: 29) reports this specimen under a later name, Peucedanum simplex Nutt. ex S. Watson (in C. King, Botany [Fortieth Parallel]: 129. 1871) as well as P. triternatum (Pursh) Nutt. ex Torr. & A. Gray (N. Amer. Fl. 1: 626. 1840). The type was collected along the Clearwater River in Nez Perce Co., Idaho, on 6 May 1806 (Moulton, 1991: 215-220). During the day, the expedition moved from the mouth of the Potlatch River to just downstream of Pine Creek. No mention is made of the plant. Pursh states "The fusiform root of this species is one of the grateful vegetables of the Indians: they use it baked or roasted."
