Abstract:
Pursh (1813: 426) refers the specimen to Mimulus luteus L. (Sp. Pl., ed. 2, 2: 884 1764) with the notation it was found "On the banks of Clarck's river" and "Herb. Lewis nec non Lambert." Given the propensity of the species to suffer insect damage, it is possible the fragmentary material obtained by Lewis and Clark was destroyed.
