Abstract:

Meehan (1898: 45) lists this as Agropyron divergens (Nees ex Steud.) Nees ex Vasey (Grasses U.S.: 96. 1885), a synonym of A. spicatum (Pursh) Scribn. & J. G. Sm. (in Bull. U.S. Div. Agrost. 4: 33. 1897) by which this plant is best known in the botanical literature. The type was collected on 10 Jun 1806 most probably along the trail toward Weippe Prairie northeast of Kamiah in Idaho Co., Idaho (Moulton, 1993: 7-13). Lewis remarks that "the country through which we passed is extreemly fertile" and a number of plants are mentioned but not this grass.
