Robinson and Greenman did not identify the specimen, and Meehan (1898: 28) does not suggest a name. The sheet was subsequently misidentified as Lomatium grayi (J. M. Coult. & Rose) J. M. Coult. & Rose (in Contr. U.S. Natl. Herb. 7: 229. 1900), and Moulton (in press) lists the sheet under this name. The label includes the note "An large fusiform root, which the / natives prepare by baking" which certainly applies to this species.
