Meehan (1898: 37) and others refer this specimen to the Eurasian species Polemonium caeruleum L. (Sp. Pl.: 162. 1753). We follow Cronquist (Interm. Fl. 5: 89. 1984) in maintaining the North American expression as a distinct species. The specimen was gathered on 27 Jun 1806 at the "Head waters of Kooskoosky" according to the label data. At this time the party was near Hungery Creek along the Lolo Trail in Idaho Co., Idaho (Moulton, 1993: 55-59).
